Checklist for Submittal of Material Approval (SAM)

Documents to be attached/required in submitting a Material Approval request in form of Construction Submittals?

Definition:
Material submittal is a contractual term often used in construction industry. Bulk materials procurement (Cement, Cable glands, HDPE Pipes, Fasteners..etc.) which are general products in market, available to anyone for buying. Such materials when used in quality construction projects, it is required to submit samples of that product with associated documents - form called - Submittal for Material Approval (SMA) in which you mention the manufacturer name, type of product that is being sourced, any available details to show that the manufacturer is a standard manufacturer, producing quality products.
Another variation to the above is ordered material is received at project site, it has to be offered for Client inspector to inspect & provide its acceptance for issuing it to construction team. The piece of paper (request for inspection) on which the information is given to Client is also called as material submittal in some geographic locations. The RFI is linked to material, so in slang people say - is the material submitted for inspection / offered for inspection (i.e. Material Sumittal)

Following documents are required:

  1. Copy of Manufacturer / Supplier's Approval / Pre-Qualification
  1. Project Scope (Requirements)
  1. Related Project Approved Design / Shop Drawings ( Sectional/Architectural/MEP)
  1. Related Project Specification.
  1. Compliance Letter or Statement for the proposed material against required material as per project requirement and project specification
  1. Technical Data Sheets (TDS) of Proposed Material
  1. Test Certificates from Manufacturer / Supplier as Per Standards
  1. Material should be listed in Supplier's Product List
  1. Material Sample Sections
  1. Country of Origin
